About Kit Houses
From 1908-1940, Sears sold the house of your dreams through their famous catalog. For $650–$2,500, you could order a house. It would come via train in a box with ready-to-assemble instructions, and you could fully build your own dream home. These were called Kit Houses.
I got to stay in a Kit House a couple years ago, and it was quite the charming little bungalow. While I don’t expect to find a kit house or assemble my own, I like the idea that all you need to do to get a dream house is build it.
